As always, plenty of capable horses will be competing at Liverpool's Aintree Racecourse. That said, let's take an early look at the most-likely runners (listed heaviest-to-lightest weight) for Saturday's race. Keep in mind that the final list will be confirmed on Thursday (Apr 7).

  • Many Clouds (8/1) - Grand National 2015 champion is looking like a strong favorite to repeat as winner.
  • Silviniaco Conti (12/1) - Good jumper, solid contender; at prime winning age at 10 years old.
  • First Lieutenant (33/1) - Multiple second-place finishes, hasn't won in three years.
  • Wonderful Charm (66/1) - Consistency is a problem, but could place well.
  • Ballynagour (66/1) - Has a third and fifth-place finish since October.
  • O'Faolains Boy (40/1) -Strong potential and has been running well this year.
  • Gilgamboa (66/1) - Nice jumper, but has never won a race at this distance.
  • On His Own (40/1) - Looking to stay up this time; fell last two times in this event.
  • The Druids Nephew (16/1) - Took second at Grimthorpe Chase; could contend this year.
  • Triolo D'Alene (33/1) - Injuries have diminished once-great ability, but still runs solid.
  • Rocky Creek (66/1) - Hasn't made much of an impact in this race the past two years.
  • Sir Des Champs (40/1) - Raced three times since injury, winning at Thurles.
  • Holywell (16/1) - Took second at Cheltenham Handicap Chase and is in good position to fair well.
  • Shutthefrontdoor (25/1) - Favorite last year, but took fifth place.
  • Soll (50/1) - Consistent runner who can be counted on for a good showing.
  • Buywise (50/1) - Very good jumper who could be a long-shot favorite to win.
  • Boston Bob (33/1) - Has the occasional excellent showing, but is inconsistent.
  • Aachen (100/1) - 12 years old, not a serious contender.
  • Morning Assembly (33/1) - Strong-looking horse with good form, but hasn't won since 2013.
  • Double Ross (66/1) - Experienced with two completions here, but probably not a winner.
  • Goonyella (20/1) - 2015 Midlands Grand National champ should do well at Aintree.
  • Ucello Conti (33/1) - Great horse in France; looking to make a splash abroad.
  • Unioniste (33/1) - Fell early in 2015, however, could come back strong this time around.
  • Le Reve (40/1) - Raced six times this year, winning at Sandown.
  • Gallant Oscar (33/1) - Can run great, but hasn't performed well in 2016.

  • Katenko (66/1) - Little sign of being a champion lately.
  • Vics Canvas (66/1) - Doing well for 13-year-old, but probably not a serious contender here.
  • Black Thunder (50/1) - Successful in smaller races, however, not so experienced in large events.
  • Ballycasey (80/1) - Came into last year's race with better odds, but fell.
  • Hadrian's Approach (66/1) - Once great runner, injuries have since hurt career.
  • Vieux Lion Rouge (66/1) - Sometimes looks part of champion, but only in flashes.
  • Pendra (66/1) - Won at 2015 Ascot, but next-latest victory was in 2013.
  • Saint Are (25/1) - Good odds on a horse that nearly won this race last year, coming in second.
  • Home Farm (100/1) - Likely doesn't have stamina to make noise in race this long.
  • The Romford Pele (50/1) - Year-long injury, returned in October; hasn't won in 5 tries since.
  • Knock House (100/1) - Fairly new runner, will gain valuable experience here.
