Cheltenham Festival 2016 kicked off in style with Annie Power making it as the first mare to win the Champion Hurdle in 22 years!

Well known as one of the most popular horse racing events in the United Kingdom, the Cheltenham Festival 2016 kicked off today on the 15th March 2016. We bring you a round up of the days the races including the most important hurdle race of the season - the Champion Hurdle.

13:30 Supreme Novices Hurdle

There were 14 runners available in the the first race of Cheltenham Fesitval 2016 with Altior set as the bookiees pre-race favourite at odds of 4/1 coming in as the winner followed by Min with a starting price of 9/4 and Buveur D'Air at 8/1 - the three favourites landing at a 1, 2, 3 position for the first race of the Cheltenham season.

14:10 Arkle Challenge Trophy Steeple Chase

Only 7 runners in the Steeple chase with the top three coming in with the favourite first, Douvan who the bookiees had down as 3/10 followed by Sizing John at 9/1 and the surprise package of Fox Norton at 33/1 coming in third.

14:50 Ultima Handicap Steeple Chase

There were 22 runnes for the Handicap Steeple Chase including a the long shot of According To Trev listed as a starting price at 100/1. first place was Un Temps pour Tout with an SP of 14/1 followed by Holywell at 10/1 and 3rd place was The Young Master with a starting price of 16/1.

15:30 Champion Hurdle

Annie Power made it third time lucky in the biggest event of the Hurdle season so far to become the first mare to win the Champion Hurdle in 22 years! The comedic My Ten Or Yours came in second followed by Nichols Canyon listed at 9/1 and 13/2 respectively.

16:10 Mares' Hurdle Race

Vroum Vroum Mag pulled in an impressive win with a suprise runner Rock on the Moor rated at 50/1 coming in at second place followed by Legacy Gold. Watch the highlights of the Mares Hurdle race from the 2016 Cheltenham Festival:

16:50 146th Year Of The National Hunt Steeple Chase Challenge Cup

146 years in the making and still as exciting as ever but no luck for the long shot of How About It at odds of 125/1. Minella Rocco came in at first place followed swiftly by Native River and Measureofmydreams.

17:30 Novices Handicap Chase

Closing off Day 1 at the Cheltenham Festival 2016 was the Novices Handicap Chase with the first three coming in as Ballyalton, Bouvreuil, and Double Shuffle.

With Day 1 over we're looking forward to day 2 at Cheltenam Festival 2016 dubbed Ladies Day with the Queen Mother Champion Chase and Champion Bumber to look forward too.
